Being the first white man ever to see the Victoria Falls, Missionary/Explorer Dr. David Livingstone made remarkable
history in this area. He named the magnificent Victoria Falls after the reigning Queen Victoria and laid the pathway
for further exploration and the emergence of his life's goal; the opening of the African Continent to "Christianity
and Commerce", and finally ending the slave trade. Although his exploration of this part of the Zambezi only represents
a small portion of Livingstone's detailed expeditions throughout the sub-continent of Africa, it remains
his most famous...

The Magnificent Victoria Falls Photo Gallery
THE POUNDING WATER CRASHES into the abyss below. The rush of a majestic mist rises into the air
with each ton of falling water. The mist can be seen some 30 kilometers away, acting as a messenger that reveals the
secret of what lies ahead. In 1855, Doctor David Livingstone, upon seeing the Falls for
the first time, penned, "Scenes so lovely must have been gazed upon by angels in their flight." The breathlessness of that
statement alone speaks volumes. Standing 111 meters (300 feet) high, in peak season over 9,000,000
liters per second cascade over the rocky cliffs. The sound is exhilarating, the sight is
astounding and the experience is breathtaking. The local tribes call it "Mosi-Oa-Tunya", the
"Smoke that Thunders!" That is... the VICTORIA FALLS.
